My favorite book by an Asian author would have to be The Tale of Genji by Murasaki Shikibu because it is considered one of the first "novels" in the world and is a perfect picture of life at the imperial court during 11th century Japan.

I have heard that Free Food for Millionaires is very good, and I have a copy of memoirs of a Geisha to read. However as of yet I have not read many Asian books. So far this year my favourite book has been by a German author, Three Bags Full.

As for favorite Asian book, I'd probably have to say something by Amitav Ghosh, but I unfortunately haven't been exposed much to Asian literature (that I know of, anyway). I'm a big Anime fan, though, and have a fascination with Samurai culture, if that helps.
Anywho. My email is arconna[at]yahoo[dot]com
