Giveaway: The Dog Lived (and So Will I) by Teresa Rhyne

Thanks to Liz Kelsch of Sourcebooks I am giving away one copy of The Dog Lived (and So Will I).

Book Description:

The Dog Lived (and So Will I) (ISBN: 9781402271724; October 2, 2012; $14.99 U.S.; Memoir; Trade Paper) is the true story of Teresa Rhyne and her totally incorrigible, totally lovable beagle, Seamus. Teresa was a successful attorney finally enjoying life with a new (younger) boyfriend, after surviving her second divorce, when her newly adopted dog Seamus was diagnosed with a malignant tumor and given less than a year to live.

While Teresa coped by swearing, wailing, raging, drinking wine, blaming, self-pity, dog-pity, and drinking more wine, Seamus ate everything in sight. He also charmed the vets out of thousands of bones, demanded regular cuddles, howled when he was left alone, had uncontrollable bursts of energy, and generally came to rule his household—all while undergoing chemotherapy.

Seamus beat his grim diagnosis with moxie and good humor. But the story doesn't end there. Just one year later, at the age of 45, Teresa was diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer.

Her doctors said there was a thirty percent chance her cancer would metastasize and kill her. It occurred to her that Seamus’s devil-may-care approach to cancer wasn't such a bad idea. She also felt oddly confident she’d survive—because the dog did.

The Dog Lived (and So Will I) tells the moving and often hilarious story of how Seamus led the way and made cancer a less frightening, more manageable experience for Teresa.

It is also the story of how a woman, a younger man, and a hard-luck beagle grew into an unconventional, committed, and loving family.

About Teresa Rhyne:

Teresa Rhyne is an animal advocate and breast cancer survivor. On January 12, 2009, she underwent a lumpectomy for triple-negative breast cancer, followed by four rounds of chemotherapy and 36 rounds of radiation. She has been “NED” (no evidence of disease) ever since.

She has lived in Southern California (it’s like its own state) for her entire life, and shares a house with her boyfriend Chris and their irrepressible, diabolically cute beagle, Seamus (the Famous).

And About That Beagle:

Seamus had a rough start in life. Animal Control found him roaming the mean streets of Moreno Valley (that’s right, he’s a street beagle) and brought him to the County Animal Shelter where, despite his microchip and obvious prior care, his prior guardians never came to claim him.

Just in time, the magnificent crew at the Mary S. Roberts Pet Adoption Center rescued him and promptly brought him into Teresa’s life where he has quickly made up for any past hardships. His (assigned) birth date is March 17, 2003 and his full name is Seamus Luxury Leisure Danger Trouble Hunger Cuteness Rhyne-Kern (the Famous).

His favorite meal is chicken, bacon, bleu cheese, cheeseburger on a triple bun, with roast beef, pastrami and pork chops on the side, and Girl Scout cookies for dessert. Also, toast.

Giveaway:Trouble in Texas by Katie Lane

Thanks to Jihan Antoine of Grand Central Publishing, Forever Romance, I am giving away 2 copies of Trouble in Texas.

Book Description:

Inheriting the most notorious house of ill repute in Texas can spell trouble for a girl's reputation . . . especially when she's Elizabeth Murphy, Bramble's prim and proper librarian. Yet when she discovers a buck-naked cowboy handcuffed to a four-poster bed, she forgets all about the town gossips. Elizabeth has sworn off men, but the stranger's kisses melt her resolve faster than ice cream on a hot summer day.

Waking up in Miss Hattie's Henhouse isn't how Brant Cates reckoned on getting to the bottom of his great-granddaddy's murder. The plan was to solve the centuries-old crime, then get the heck out of Dodge. But after meeting Elizabeth and discovering that the buttoned-up beauty is a sexy siren in disguise, he just can't pull himself away.

Now Brant needs Elizabeth to finally put his past to rest, but is she willing to risk her future on Bramble's newest bad boy?

About Katie Lane:

Katie Lane's interest in romance was sparked in high school in the backseat of a '65 Mustang-okay, so maybe it wasn't romance as much as raging teenage hormones. Still, coupled with a wild imagination, those make-out sessions inspired many a steamy storyline along with a strong belief that true love does prevail. Katie lives in Albuquerque, New Mexico, with the owner of that Mustang and would love to hear from her readers.

Giveaway: Ten Days by Dr. Janet Gilsdorf

Thanks to Kelley & Hall Book Publicity, I am giving away one copy of Ten Days.

Book  Description:

In her novel, Ten Days, Dr. Gilsdorf explores the world of medicine from both sides, that of a parent and a physician. What if a parent doesn’t recognize an illness in their child? What if they don’t seek medical attention quickly? What if one of the parents is a physician?

Ten Days introduces the reader to Anna and Jake. Although Anna and Jake Campbell interact with the world in very different ways, she as a cautious worrier and he as an optimistic realist, they successfully navigate the everyday problems that percolate through their marriage until the night their young son, Eddie, becomes ill. Anna has a bad cold and longs for the peace of evening and Jake, an orthopedic surgery resident, spends the night at the hospital, taking care of other people’s sick wives and children. As a result of their irreversible, achingly regrettable inactions, Anna and Jake face losing their child.

The characters in Ten Days represent the many parents and physicians Dr. Gilsdorf encounters during her work as a pediatrician. Dr. Gilsdorf is the Robert P. Kelch Professor of Pediatrics and Communicable Diseases at the University of Michigan, Director of Haemophilus influenza research laboratory, Director of the Cellular and Molecular Biology in Pediatrics Training Program and Co-Director of the Molecular and Clinical Epidemiology of Infectious Diseases.

Giveaway: The Booby Trap by Anne Browning Walker

Thanks to Babs Chandrasoma of PR by the Book I am giving away one copy of the Booby Trap.

Book Description:

Welcome to the Booby Trap, a seedy bar in Everett, Mass. where waitresses' skirts are high, necklines are low, and customers show up for the eye candy.

This is the setting for Anne Browning Walker’s provocative novel, The Booby Trap (Pixel Entertainment, September 2012) in which Harvard Ph.D. candidate Bambi Benson finds the waitresses prime research for her degree in women's studies, and embarks on a mission to go undercover and completely immerse herself in their world.

All goes well until handsome local celebrity Trip Whitley enters the scene.

Hoping to ruffle the feathers of his well-connected family by dating someone 'beneath' him, Trip suggests that Bambi take on the role of his girlfriend, and receive compensation for her efforts. This fits in perfectly with the vision Bambi has for her dissertation: Trip will realize the error of his ways after she reveals her true identity, and teach him not to judge base on appearances.

Sounds like a great plan, but it's about to be foiled: Bambi might actually be falling for Trip.

A fun, absorbing read, The Booby Trap was written with a particular audience in mind: Walker's closest friends.

"I wanted my heroine to reflect the many smart, savvy, thoughtful, and driven women in my life," Walker says. “Bambi is a modern-day heroine who values ambition and success in her own career, and also makes time for love.”

About Anne Browning Walker:

ANNE BROWNING WALKER is a career writer and researcher. Currently living in Washington, D.C. with her husband, Walker is a member of Romance Writers of America and is working on her next romance novel. Learn more at annebrowningwalker.com.

Important message to women with big Boobies from Teddy:

Before I get to the giveaway, I have a kind of funny story to tell you.  Babs contacted me the day before my surgery was scheduled.  When I saw her email, I couldn't stop laughing and I knew I had to take part in this tour!

Some may think this is too much information but I want to share this with other women out there who are contemplating having the surgery I had.  I had breast reduction.  I thought that such a funny coincidence that this book of all books popped up in an email just the day before the surgery!  LOL!

Anyway, to other big breasted women out there, it has been one month since the surgery and I am pretty much recovered now.  I started developing breasts in fourth grade and they just never stopped growing.  You can imagine how much the other kids made fun of me.  I finally settled into a G cup in my early 20's.

It was so hard to find a bra that fit.  Most companies make large cup bras for very overweight women.  I'm a 34 around and had to go to specialty shops to get fitted properly.  Bra's for me were around $150 each.

That's not why I had the surgery, but it certainly was in the back of my mind.

I contemplated having the surgery for well over 20 years and finally did it.  I have been having neck, shoulder, and upper back problems since my early 20's.  The was the deciding factor.  So far, I am really happy with the results although I would have liked to be even smaller but the surgeon wouldn't do it.  Yes, there are scar but they will fade some over time and my bra covers them.

I certainly won't tell you what to do but I suggest if you have been contemplating it, go see a surgeon just for a consultation.  Also, try to find other women who have done it.  My mother did it when I was young and I wouldn't do it because of how hers turned out.  The techniques are totally different now and I had a friend who did it before me.  She was so happy with the results, that I used the same surgeon.  Also, if it is deemed a medical necessity, like in my case, your insurance will likely cover it.

Now for the giveaway!  This giveaway is open to the U.S. and Canada and ends on December 5, 2012.  Please use Rafflecopter to enter.
