Uncle Toms Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe
I had to think long and hard on what book I would post about for the letter "L" Then it dawned on me that one of the main characters in Uncle Tom's Cabin had the last name of Legree, Simon Legree that is.
Simon Legree was a "bad ass", downright cruel slave owner. I read this years before my blogging days. I had always hesitated to read it because I had thought it was pro slavery, but someone convinced me that it was a must read. I can see why this book raised so much controversy back when it was published as it does take an anti-slavery tone.
If you haven't read Uncle Toms Cabin, I highly recommend it.

My son has to read this for his summer reading for high school next year. I'm looking forward to reading it along with him. I've never read it before!
