Thanks to Paula Krapf and Penny Sansevieri of Author MarketingExperts, Inc.
Thanks to Deanna McFadden of Harper Collins Canada
If I could only get one book in 2009, this would have been it! However, I had to promise Deanna that I wouldn't post a review until the publication date, May 15th.
If you haven't read Kate Grenville's The Secret River, your really missing out on an excellent book. It's one of my all time favorites!

I am so tempted to taunt you about the fact that I have already read The Lieutenant, but it wouldn't be all that amusing would it now? Well, only to me!

Wow, you had a great week. I can't wait to read some of your reviews.

Wow! Those all look great!
I'm hanging my head though because I still haven't read anything by Kate Grenville.

I have the audio book of People of the Book - I can't wait to listen to it - hopefully I'll get to it next month.

Marking my calendar for May 15th...

I also really want to read People of the Book. Enjoy your new acquisitions!
Nymeth said... January 13, 2009 12:34 PM
Wow yot got a good selection of books there Teddy. Enjoy!
Dar said... January 13, 2009 12:43 PM
Yeah, very funny Marg. Ha ha. I am trying to hold off reading it until closer to the time that I can post the review, but it's tough! You know how much I love Kate Grenville!
Bermudaonion, it may be awhile. I have been upfront with publishers that I have an ARC backlog. Luckly, they still want to send me books because my pormise is that all reviews sent to me will get reviewed eventually.
Tanabata, you must read 'The Secret River!' You just must!
Heather, I am also looking forward to reading 'People of the Book!'
Good plan Wanda.
Thanks Nymeth and Dar!

I've heard good things about of all these!
Ladytink_534 said... January 13, 2009 6:41 PM
Great haul! I have The Lieutenant here to read too! I started it, but haven't got that far into it.
Kailana said... January 13, 2009 7:11 PM
Ladytink, I sure hope they are all good. They will be a pretty big time investment for me.
Kailana, did you also have to agree to hold your review for publication?
Teddy Rose said... January 13, 2009 10:05 PM
I've got Bedlam South and Lost and Found on my shelf as well.
Alyce said... January 13, 2009 11:25 PM
I got People of the book! Nice haul!! I am hoping to get Lost and Found someday too!
Toni said... January 13, 2009 11:54 PM
You probably know that I loved People of the Book. I've just added The Secret River to my TBR. Stop tempting me! Well, maybe not:-)
Kristy said... January 14, 2009 5:14 PM
Alyce, it will be fun to see each others reviews once we write them.
Tony, I was really excited about getting People of the Book. I also thought Lost and Found would be a nicwe change of pace from the kind of books I usually read.
Kristy, I remember how much you loved People of the Book. How could I forget. It's your fault that it is on my TBR, so fair is fair!

What a great selection of books! I'm still hoping I'll get something from Deanna (I requested The Lieutenant, although I haven't read The Secret River yet.) An Obsolete Honor sounds interesting! Are you doing the War Through the Generations challenge?
avisannschild said... January 15, 2009 1:07 PM
avisannschild,
No I'm not doing the War Through the Generations challenge, as tempting as it is.

I didn't know Geraldine Brooks had another novel- I liked Year of wonders a lot.
As for Rushdie- I also tried and gave up on Midnight's Children, but I had no trouble settling into The Enchantress of Florence, if that is any help. It is much shorter and seemingly lighter and I don't think it's in his normal style of writing at all.
Aarti said... January 15, 2009 9:38 PM
Aarti, People of the Book has been out for quite nawhile now. It's just gone into paperback. Everyone I know who has read it, really like it a lot.
For sure I'll give The Enchantress of Florence a try at some point especially because you didn't care for Midnight's Children either. LOL!
Teddy Rose said... January 16, 2009 9:11 PM
You got some good ones! I got zilch...
Lenore said... January 17, 2009 12:10 PM
Sorry Lenore. I am sending thoughts your way "send Lenore books, lots of good books". Hope that helps!
Teddy Rose said... January 17, 2009 8:32 PM
I haven't heard of Kate Grenville before... I will have to check her out.
Melissa said... January 19, 2009 3:28 PM
Melissa,
A Secret River is one of my favorite books. Start with that one if you decide to check out Kate Grenville.
Teddy Rose said... January 19, 2009 11:07 PM
I think I am going to get The Lieutenant from Deanna in the end! Do you think I should read The Secret River first?
avisannschild said... January 28, 2009 3:55 PM
avisannschild,
That's great news. So far I have been able to put off reading it. I do know that it pre-dates 'The Secret River', so I think you can read it first. However, besure to read 'The Secret River' at some point because it is such a treat!
Teddy Rose said... January 29, 2009 11:40 AM
Having read both books, I can safely say that there is no problem with reading The Lieutenant before or after The Secret River. Other than the fact they are both set at settlement, there is no other similarlity, and no shared characters.
Marg said... January 29, 2009 7:00 PM
Thanks, Teddy Rose and Margaret! I'll probably wind up reading The Lieutenant first then. (I'll definitely read the other one at some point though, since it's already on my TBR pile.)
avisannschild said... January 29, 2009 11:36 PM
Sorry, Marg, I meant "Marg"! I didn't mean to assume you go by Margaret too! (It's late and I should be in bed rather than writing comments!)
avisannschild said... January 29, 2009 11:37 PM
It's okay. I am Margaret everywhere except on the internet!
Marg said... January 30, 2009 1:50 PM
Thanks for clearing that up Marg, that's what I thought.
avisannschild, enjoy!
